Letter to IDB Invest: CMI Alimentos, Central America (November 2023)

Stop Financing Factory Farming
10th November '23

We expressed serious concerns to IDB Invest about its proposed loan of up to US$250 million to support the expansion of poultry giant CMI Alimentos and its subsidiaries, mainly in Honduras, Costa Rica, and El Salvador.

S3F research into CMI Alimentos’ operations indicate that the environmental and social impacts could be diverse, irreversible, or unprecedented, including adverse impacts on climate and indigenous peoples.

This research also suggests the project may have negative consequences on food security, particularly among vulnerable populations who rely on subsistence agriculture. Food security is stated as a key aim of the project.
