Letter to Public Development Banks: Defund Industrial Livestock (February 2021)
Stop Financing Factory Farming
22nd February '21
Divestment from Industrial Livestock’s letter from Feedback, Friends of Earth (FOE), Global Forest Coalition (GFC) and Sinergia Animal, Stop Financing Factory Farming coalition (S3F) members, to the International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Developmen (EBRD), the African Development Bank (AFDB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), is in response to the public development banks’ reply to the organizations’ letter of November 3, 2020.
This last letter asked public development banks to show true commitment to achieving the SDGs and the Paris Agreement goals, by divesting from industrial livestock operations.
The organizations state that a just transition towards a more sustainable future cannot be achieved by investing in industrial livestock farming. Investments in the industrial livestock sector stall progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), undermine the Paris Climate Agreement goals, and continue to violate human rights.
