World Bank Thwarts Climate Goals With $750 Million in Factory Farm Investments

Stop Financing Factory Farming

A recent Truthout article highlights alarming findings from the Stop Financing Factory Farming (S3F) coalition’s latest report. The investigation revealed that development banks, including the World Bank, funneled $2.27 billion into factory farming in 2023, undermining their commitments to climate goals. The World Bank led the pack, investing nearly $750 million in industrial agriculture through its private-sector arm, the IFC. Merel van der Mark of Sinergia Animal emphasized that these investments fuel deforestation, biodiversity loss, and greenhouse gas emissions. While factory farming accounted for 68% of investments, only 2.3% went to potentially sustainable non-industrial projects, according to the report based on Early Warning System data.
