Letter to IFC: Louis Dreyfus Company, Brazil (May 2022)

Stop Financing Factory Farming
31st May '22

This letter from the undersigned organisations, including Stop Financing Factory Farming coalition (S3F), and sent to the International Finance Corporation (IFC) shares concerns in relation to Project 44281: IFC proposed loans of up to US$200 million to Louis Dreyfus Company Brazil to support the purchasing of soy and corn produced in the heavily threatened Cerrado biome of Brazil.

The organisations believe that this investment, which carries significant environmental and social risks should at minimum be classified as a Category A loan requiring a detailed Environmental Impact Review and stakeholder consultation. They also fear that LDC lacks a full traceability system and its zero deforestation policy does not fully apply until the end of 2025.

Furthermore, this loan will support the provision of feed for environmentally destructive industrial livestock production
instead of direct human consumption.
